Bylaws Committee

The Bylaws Committee is an ad hoc committee of the Crofton Elementary PTA. The CES bylaws are reviewed and overhauled as necessary every three years, based on the required template issued by the Maryland PTA. Between revisions, the bylaws can be amended at a general membership meeting by two-thirds vote of attending members, as long as a quorum is present.

The three-year revision process consists of the following steps:

A committee is appointed by the PTA board (circa September)
The Bylaws Committee meets to review, discuss, and recommend new bylaws based on the Maryland PTA template
The committee presents the recommended bylaws to the CES PTA board, with discussion (circa October)
The new proposed bylaws are posted - usually on the website and on the CES lobby bulletin board - for the general membership to review and comment on, for at least 30 days before voting (circa November)
The general membership votes to adopt the new bylaws (circa December).
The approved bylaws are accepted by the Maryland PTA (circa February).

The new bylaws are then in effect for the next three years. The Bylaws Committee is disbanded until the autumn of the year before the bylaws expire, when the review process begins again.

The current bylaws are in effect for 2010-2013. The Bylaws Committee has been disbanded until Fall 2012.
