The Volunteer Committee coordinates and schedules logistical and staffing support for school functions. These school functions are not technically PTA programs but the PTA is committed to supporting Crofton Elementary is a number of ways, and volunteering our time and talents is certainly a vital part of that mission. The Volunteer Committee has divided the volunteer functions into a number of categories that are listed below. Opportunities to volunteer at the school are also discussed in the Parent & Volunteer Handbook (PDF, 275K).
Traditionally, volunteers devote more than 20,000 hours a year to Crofton Elementary. If you want to volunteer for any of these programs or would like to be the Volunteer Committee Chair, send an email to the PTA board.
All volunteers at CES should read the Visitors And Volunteers page for information about security requirements.
Most of these occur in August and September, in preparation for the new school year.
This is a liaison position for homeroom parents. Each classroom should have a homeroom parent, who runs special functions (class parties, etc.) and coordinates assistance for the teacher (aides for computer time, etc.). The Homeroom Parent Coordinator must:
This position coordinates volunteers for education events and others as needed. The supported CES staff include the media center (school library), reading resource coach, the gifted-talented coordinator, and other faculty as requested.
This position is held by two people. They coordinate volunteers for events requested by the school secretaries, Student Government Association (SGA), the principal and assistant principal, school guidance counselor, and the school nurse.
Anne Arundel County runs a Production Center in Crofton that is available for projects beyond the capabilities of the school's equipment. Examples are posters, large quantities of laminating, buttons, and a huge variety of die-cut shapes. This coordinator ensures that weekly volunteers are available to fulfill faculty requests for Production Center projects.
Every day, volunteers use the school's high-speed photocopier to copy the homework, tests, morning work, and special projects needed by the teachers, thereby freeing the teachers to teach. The Copy Coordinator assembles the schedule and trains new volunteers to run the machine. Each grade is then copied on a set rotating schedule through the week.
