Ways & Means Committee

The Ways & Means Committee is the main fundraising arm of the Crofton Elementary School PTA. The funds we raise support a huge number of student assemblies, school programs, free events for the school community, and school improvements; for more information about where your dollars go, visit the budget page.

Plans are underway to develop new and exciting fundraising events that are fun for your whole family. Check back regularly for more information!

Interested in helping or coordinating our FUNdraising activities? The CES PTA is looking for a Ways & Means committee chair. If you can help, contact the PTA president.

So far this year, CES fundraisers have brought in the following funds to benefit Crofton Elementary:

Haunted Halls and Monster Mash

Saturday, October 25
6 - 8pm
CES Cafeteria

A sold-out crowd of 550 people celebrated Fall with a monstrously good time at the Monster Mash! Pumpkin decorating, fortune telling, face painting, DJ, and games entertained the whole family. Congratulations to Miranda M. and Robert L. for their closest guesses on the candy jars. Thanks to the many volunteers who made this fun event possible.

Many thanks to the local businesses who donated items for the Mash: Patuxent Nursery, Y Worry Farm, George Poore farm stand, Bead Shack, and Al Friedman from Long & Foster Realtors. Concessions were made possible in part by the Suburban Federal Savings Bank. Thank you for all your generosity - your support means a lot to our school!

New this year!
The Great Pumpkin Contest

Wow! Pumpkins in all shapes, colors, and decorations participated in the Great Pumpkin Contest. The 42 entries showed amazing creativity. Congratulations to the contest winners (PDF, 24K) and all the contestants.

Easy to use Scrip cards benefit everyone, including your school

Scrip

Cards you use instead of cash or credit

The Scrip program is here! It's easy:

  • purchase gift cards through the CES PTA, for a variety of stores you already shop at
  • the cards are delivered to you
  • you use the cards every time you shop at those stores, instead of cash or credit cards
  • a percentage of your card goes directly to CES PTA to benefit programs and equipment purchases at Crofton Elementary.
  • Pretty cool, huh?

This program is available to all CES families, faculty, and staff. The cards make great gifts for family and friends in the upcoming holidays, too.

Full information on the Scrip program went home with the October 20 order form, or you can download the letter here (PDF, 57K). In summary, use these easy steps to order Scrip cards:

  • An order form will come home in your child's backpack about every other Wednesday, or you can download the appropriate form by clicking on the Wednesday date above (PDF, 16K).
  • Fill out the order form with the cards you want to purchase.
  • You can even order cards from a merchant that isn't listed on the order form. In the bottom section, just write the exact merchant name as it appears on the Great Lakes Scrip website, with the size card you want to order.
  • Write a check to "CES PTA."
  • Put the order form and check in an envelope marked "PTA Scrip Order" and send the envelope to school with your child no later than Monday.
  • Pull the return envelope out of your child's backpack on Friday, with the cards ready to use.

Every dollar you order benefits Crofton Elementary. The PTA receives 4% to 12% of the card's value, which we use to fund school programs and school improvements. And it doesn't cost you a dime!

The more sales, the higher our percentage. No coupons, no hassle, all fun. It's a super-easy way to have a nice family meal and help our school at the same time!

Also, diners have fun chances to win great prizes!

You can view a generic Ledo Pizza Night flyer (PDF, 62K). Dates are also listed on the PTA Calendar of Events.
