The current PTA officers (for the school year 2010-2011) are:
All PTA officers serve a term from July 1 to June 30. Any CES PTA member in good standing as of the March PTA meeting can vote and can run for election. Names of willing, eligible nominees are assembled by the nominating committee in February; nominations are also taken from the floor in March. The officers are then elected by the general PTA membership in April.
The President presides at all PTA meetings, both general and executive board.
The president coordinates the work of the officers and committes of this local PTA so that our objectives are promoted. She is also a member ex officio of all committees except the nominating committee.
The President also updates the Parent & Volunteer Handbook every year, as a resource for CES parents (PDF, 89K).
Read a Welcome note from the PTA president, sent home in the First Day packets (PDF, 27KB).
The Vice President acts as an aide to the president and acts as president in the other's absence.
The Vice President oversees the Membership committee, which coordinates PTA membership and produces the annual school/PTA directory.
The Vice President also coordinates programs for the PTA general membership meetings.
The Secretary records the minutes of all meetings, both general and executive board. She files all PTA records as required by Maryland corporate laws, Maryland state tax regulations, and PTA rules. The Secretary also maintains a current copy of our bylaws and oversees the ad hoc Bylaws committee when it is operating.
The Treasurer has custody of all funds of this PTA. He keeps full and accurate accounts of receipts and expenditures, and makes disbursements as authorized by the PTA officers and committee chairs. All checks are double-signed. He presents a written financial statement at every PTA meeting and when requested by the executive board. He makes a full report before the newly elected officers when they assume their duties. He is responsible for maintaining account books and records in accordance with the CES PTA bylaws. He prepares and files all necessary tax forms. At the close of the fiscal year, the CES PTA accounts are examined by an auditor or auditing committee.
If you have incurred expenses for a PTA function, download the Check Request Form to submit the receipt(s) for reimbursement (PDF, 274K). Fill out the form and drop it to the PTA box in the teachers' lounge. Note that original receipts are required. The CES PTA treasurer will write a reimbursement check for you.
Note: Everyone in the community is invited to all PTA meetings - members, non-members, or soon-to-be members. Only current PTA members in good standing can vote at PTA general meetings, and only members of the PTA Board can vote at board meetings.
